Heat
The planet has already absorbed more than 500 Zettajoules of excess heat from global warming - with the oceans taking up over 91% of it, all stored in one medium: water.
Every two weeks, the oceans absorb as much heat energy as humanity uses in an entire year (~0.6 ZJ).
This energy is driving marine ecosystem collapse and ice cap melting - a destructive surplus with no outlet.
But it is also an untapped, unlimited energy source.
At ocane, we believe the solution lies in the problem: using the very heat that threatens our future to power the transition away from fossil fuels.


430ppm - Acidity
The safe concentration of CO₂ in the atmosphere is around 350 ppm. We are now at 430 ppm - a level that locks in rising global temperatures.
Even if we achieve Net Zero - meaning emissions stop increasing - the damage will continue, because CO₂ concentrations remain dangerously high. To truly stabilize the climate, we must actively remove carbon from the system.
The oceans, which already absorb about a quarter of human emissions, are in constant exchange with the atmosphere. As atmospheric CO₂ rises, so does ocean CO₂ — leading to acidification that disrupts marine ecosystems.
But this too presents an opportunity: the oceans are a vast, accessible source of CO₂, ready to be captured and repurposed. Another problem that becomes part of our solution.


The Trojan CDR Horse


Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) is non-negotiable if we want to lower global temperatures. But today, CDR technologies are pure cost - depending on subsidies, political will, or voluntary credits. That cannot scale to the trillions of dollars required to make the planet safe.
Our solution: make carbon removal bankable by hiding it inside what the world already demands - green fuels.
We use ocean heat and ocean CO₂ to produce clean fuels for shipping and aviation as well as heavies for sequestration. In this way, every ton of fuel carries a hidden payload: sustainable carbon & permanently removed carbon. The Trojan Horse.
By embedding CDR into the energy transition, we unlock a trillion-dollar market, turning what was once an expense into an engine for scale.

Green Fuel
The world will always need fuels. But while the transition to green electrons (solar, wind, batteries) is accelerating, the shift to green molecules - the fuels required for aviation, shipping, and heavy industry - has barely begun.
Incumbent fossil companies will not lead this transition. Green fuels deliver lower margins than fossil oil & gas, and without a strong business case, change won’t come from within.
Regulators, too, cannot force the issue until a credible challenger shows a clear roadmap and execution to scale at competitive cost. We’ve seen this before: in the automotive sector, it took a challenger to unlock the electric vehicle revolution.
Now it’s green fuel’s turn.
The three ingredients for green fuel production - CO₂, water, and energy - already exist in the oceans, at excess scale. A one-stop-shop for the energy transition, waiting to be unlocked.

The Concept


ocane’s process taps into the heat and acidity stored in warm ocean currents. Anchored rigs use this natural energy to release gases directly from seawater.
Offshore Conversion – The captured gases are immediately converted into methanol.
Dual Use – Methanol serves two parallel purposes:
A direct marine fuel for shipping.
A feedstock for SAF .
Onshore Refining – MeOH-2-SAF conversion, heavy waste products sequestered permanently.


The Scale Engine
Ocane’s gas release process thrives in warm, salty waters, exactly the conditions found in the world’s five great warm ocean currents. These currents form a natural, perpetual resource base for massive scale deployment.
Crucially, they are equally distributed between the Northern and Southern hemispheres, opening the door to new energy industries not just in the Global North, but also across the Global South. This levels the energy playing field and enables regions long dependent on imports to become clean energy exporters.
From offshore marine fueling stations to local refining and jobs, every current is a potential hub of sustainable growth.
Europe does not have scale driving warm currents but for a local pilot site option (TRL6), we are considering tidal-currents in the Strait of Messina, Italy — paving the way for global roll-out.
